The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco (VAGF) plans to show its appreciation for its over 320 members by celebrating them at a special dinner and art auction event at UNT at Frisco on December 9.

“We really wanted to appreciate, give back and recognize several categories of people,” VAGF Director of Finance Jennifer Luney said of the guild’s annual Art Appreciation Awards dinner.

At the catered buffet dinner, the VAGF board will hand out awards for categories like Volunteer of the Year, Community Partner of the Year, Emerging Artist of the Year and the overall Artist of the Year.

“The winners will come up and get their picture taken, kind of like at any award show that you can think of,” VAGF President Suad Bejtovic said.

Bejtovic explained that each winner will receive an engraved award, with the Artist of the Year winner receiving a special sculpted award created by 2022 VAGF Artist of the Year Roger Belveal.

“We actually commissioned him to design and manufacture a unique, one-of-a-kind award that we will give to the Artist of the Year winner for this year,” Bejtovic said, adding that he hopes the VAGF can continue to have its 3D artists create the Artist of the Year award in the future.

Accompanying the dinner and award ceremony will be an 80/20 silent art auction. The VAGF has encouraged attending artists to submit up to two works to auction off at the event, with 80% of the profits going back to the artist and 20% going to the guild.

According to Luney, the submitted artwork will be eligible to win awards and cash prizes at the dinner as well. The VAGF board will vote for a Board Choice Award winner and each attendee can submit a vote for an overall Audience Choice Award winner.

Additionally, the dinner will feature live music from one of VAGF’s local partners, Melody of Hope, in addition to a raffle to accompany the art auction.

Luney noted that the VAGF is expecting just over 100 attendees, with the dinner having already expanded beyond its original location last year at HALL Park to its new venue at UNT at Frisco.

“We’re hoping that we can coordinate future artistic events with UNT at Frisco, so this is just a start,” Luney said.

The Visual Arts Guild of Frisco Arts Appreciation Awards dinner will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on December 9 at UNT Frisco. Tickets start at $35. For more information, head to the awards dinner Eventbrite page or https://www.vagf.org/.
