The station, which runs a number of blues programming blocks every week, put together a loaded lineup of blues talent across both days of performances. Headlining Saturday’s show is a collaborative performance dubbed The Blues Diva All Stars which features blues singers Andrea Dawson and Lady Lotion along with KNON host Blue Lisa supported by fellow host Reo Casey and his band. The Texas Blues Guitar Summit will then headline Saturday’s slate. The trio of experienced guitarists recently toured Europe together in the Spring of 2022, according to band member Shawn Pittman, and now find themselves back in a city in which they all have ties too for KNON’s Bluesfest. Doors open at 2 p.m. on both days with performances beginning at 3 p.m. Pinche Smokerz Tex-Mex BBQ will be for sale each day with the funds going to support KNON’s blues programming. 2nd Annual Art Meets Poetry – McKinney
Visual art meets the power of the written word at this McKinney event on February 4. Artists from The Art Club of McKinney, along with participants from McKinney Art House and the city art community as a whole, are partnering with the Mockingbird Poetry Society to showcase the talents of all those involved through collaborative creative displays at the Heard-Craig Center for the Arts on February 4. By using ekphrastic poetry, where poets find inspiration through artwork, and the inverse where artists create pieces based off of a poet’s verbiage, Art Meets Poetry returns this year with more than 30 exhibits on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m at this free event. In lieu of admission, the clubs encourage attendees to donate to one or more of three local charities while at the event, the McKinney Community Garden Kitchen, McKinney Community Food Pantry and McKinney Community Lifeline Center. There will also be a charity raffle of a one-of-a-kind print of Art Meets Poetry’s poster artwork, created by artist Gail Delger, as well.
Following Art Meets Poetry, the artists and poets will come together again for an open mic experience at local McKinney coffee house Filtered on February 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Visit https://mockingbirdpoetry.org/ and https://artclubofmckinney.org/ to learn more about both of the local clubs driving these two community art events and keep an eye on The Collin-Denton Spotlighter for an upcoming feature on Art Meets Poetry.
