Rover Dramawerks announces tuition-free youth auditions for its upcoming production of “Deadline”

Rover Dramawerks recently announced tuition-free youth auditions for its upcoming production of the murder mystery-comedy “Deadline” by Don Zolidis. The Plano-based theater organization will host auditions for youth actors ages 10-18 at Reclamation Church in Plano from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 14 and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on April 15. Callbacks will take place on April 16 if needed.

The theater’s description of the show is as follows:

“Eight mystery writers arrive at a legendary writer’s remote island mansion for the Deadline Challenge – 24 hours to write the best murder mystery, with the winner receiving a life-changing publishing deal. In reality, they’ve been brought together to solve a murder – the victim yet be determined and the killer yet to strike. If one of them can murder one of the others and get away with it, they’ll win the contest. Who will live? Who will die? Who will survive…the Deadline?”

Directed by Nicole Denson, the Rover Dramawerks production will run for four performances at the Cox Playhouse from June 20-22. Those interested in auditioning for the show should bring a resume, headshot and references. They should also arrive prepared to read scenes from the script.

Auditions will be at Reclamation Church, located at 901 Cross Bend Rd. in Plano, at the northwest corner of Alma and Cross Bend.

Brief Synopsis:
Eight mystery writers arrive at a legendary writer’s remote island mansion for the Deadline Challenge – 24 hours to write the best murder mystery, with the winner receiving a life-changing publishing deal. BELLA (M or F) – the barista
MEYERS (F) – an elderly boat captain
MORRIS (M or F) – completer of odd jobs, loud
NORRIS (M or F) – completer of even jobs, irritated
PENELOPE BAIN (F) – a social media star, just having written her first book
DEBORAH HASTINGS (F) – part of the Hastings husband-wife team
GREGORY HASTINGS (M) – her husband, kind of a doofus
CARSWELL CHALMERS (M) – a former pulp novelist of noir mysteries
VAMPETTA (F) – the gothic Queen of murder mysteries
BRENDA (F) – a mystery
ZAK (M) – the student of a famous novelist, a bro
JENNIFER MILAM (F) – southern, the writer of self-published cozy mysteries

All roles are available.

– Be prepared to read scenes from the script.
– Please bring a resume and headshot.
– References may be required.
– Actors must be between 10 and 18 years of age (inclusive) at the time of the performances.
– Youth actors will not be paid.
– There are NO TUITION REQUIREMENTS OR OTHER FEES to be involved with this production.
– Rehearsals will be in Plano and will begin on or around May 9 – to be set based on theater schedule and conflicts of cast.
– All conflicts must be noted at time of audition.
