Tails will be wagging in Carrollton this weekend when the city hosts its seventh annual Paws on the Square on Saturday, June 17. The event is slated to have a little bit everything for those who can’t get enough of man’s best friend: from shopping and pup play areas to educational, healthcare and adoption opportunities.
“I am looking forward to seeing Historic Downtown Carrollton full of dogs enjoying the park and all the activities,” Roman May, community events supervisor for the city of Carrollton, said.
The rain-or-shine event includes several unique activities for dog owners, including the chance to try out a self-guided pet agility course or the opportunity to have a picture created by an onsite photographer or caricature artist.
According to a recent city release, there will also be vendors selling treats and accessories at the event as well as an on-site DJ.
On top of those fun activities, Paws on the Square also includes a significant health and wellness component for pets. There will be free face and nail trimmings by JeTT Pets in addition to free access to potentially lifesaving services.
“Paws on the Square provides a great opportunity for pet owners to access a wide variety of animal care services, including free rabies vaccinations and microchipping,” Carrollton Animal Services Manager Travis Caperton said, adding that both are important tools for protecting your pet’s health and safety.
Carrollton West Pet Hospital will administer the free rabies vaccinations while free microchipping will be available through Operation Kindness, a local Carrollton shelter that provides lifesaving medical assistance for the pets in its care and also happens to be among one of the organizations offering pet adoptions at Paws on the Square.
In addition to Operation Kindness, Carrollton Animal Services and Dallas-based nonprofit Cane Rosso Rescue will also have pets available for adoption.
“We hope this event highlights the amazing services and organizations in our community and helps connect pet owners to the resources they need to give their pet a long, healthy life,” May said about Paws on the Square.
Paws on the Square is free-to-attend and runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on June 17, rain or shine. For more information about the event, visit the City of Carrollton’s website.
